£1 Million for MK Schools

Thanks to PE & Sports Premium primary schools across Milton Keynes will receive a £1 million funding boost to transform PE lessons for thousands of our youngsters.

Head teachers have already used the PE and Sports Premium, a fund worth more than £150million a year, which will help to recruit extra specialist PE teachers, buy new equipment and offer a wider selection of sports and free after school clubs.

Research has shown that nine out of 10 schools have already improved the quality of their PE lessons as a result of the funding and more than 90 per cent reported improvements in children's health, behaviour and lifestyle.

A typical MK primary school with 250 pupils will receive £9,000 following this announcement. This is equivalent to the cost of employing a specialist sports coach for two days each week.

This is without out doubt a welcoming boost for our MK youngsters. A vital part of growing up is being given the chance in school to experience as many types of sports as possible and it's a crucial part of the curriculum. In addition, sport gives a child the opportunity to socialise and develop skills outside of the classroom.
