City MP Mark Lancaster has asked for faster progress on the proposed extension on the Grand Union canal between Bedford and Milton Keynes. Mr Lancaster asked the government for assistance in ensuring the project was started in good time in order to maximise the benefits it will provide.
It is thought that the work will bring about a large economic boost to the local area and increase tourism greatly.
Mr Lancaster said: "The extension and renovation to the canal in the Milton Keynes area has won cross party support and will provide no end of benefits to the local area."
"I very much hope that British Waterways will ensure the extension is started and completed as soon as possible and Milton Keynes will be able to enjoy the benefits which are expected."
