Mark welcomes fall in truancy numbers

CITY MP Mark Lancaster has welcomed news that truancy in schools across the country has fallen by a third.

The news comes after the government has given schools new powers to discipline pupils who are failing to attend school.

The number of schoolchildren regularly missing school has fallen by almost 140,000 over the past two years.

Mark said 'I am pleased to see that truancy numbers are falling, there has been a lot of work gone into crack down on unauthorised absences by teachers in MK and across the country and I am delighted it is paying off.'
