Mark welcomes faster trains from Milton Keynes to London

Mark and Iain Stewart MP have welcomed news that commuters from Milton Keynes are on track to benefit from additional capacity on much faster train journeys into London.

In a letter to both MPs, Rail Minister, Theresa Villiers, confirmed that the Department for Transport has agreed with London Midland to procure 40 new Class 350 carriages for use within the franchise.

This agreement will provide 1,508 additional seats into Euston in the morning peak and 2,966 in the evening peak.

The new build carriages will be capable of running at 110mph and thereby generate additional train slots on the West Coast Main Line fast lines. This translates to an increase of 8 peak services into and out of London Euston in the morning peak and evening peak.

Mark said: "The increase in faster and newer trains is fantastic news for Milton Keynes. After years of being treated like sardines and putting up with engineering works I'm delighted that Milton Keynes is finally seeing some of the benefits."

Milton Keynes South MP, Mr Stewart added: "I welcome this new agreement because it not only makes commuting easier for many local residents but it will also boost our local economy thanks to the benefits that good transport links provide to businesses."

These services will be introduced by December 2014. The new carriages are part of wider plans by the Government to introduce 2,700 carriages onto the rail network by 2019
