City MP Mark Lancaster has welcomed the Governments planning supremo to Milton Keynes to see firsthand how the city is delivering new homes. Planning Minister Nick Boles MP made his second visit to MK this year to tour the Brooklands site in the Eastern expansion area. The visit came on the same day that official Government figures showed that the economy grew 0.8% in the last quarter with new house sales also on the rise.
The Brooklands development is Places for People's £350 million flagship development, the largest residential site within the Eastern expansion area of Milton Keynes. Phase one of the development is complete with people moved in. Phase II is now underway. Eventually, Brooklands will provide more than 2,500 houses and apartments, as well as commercial space, three new schools, shops, leisure facilities and a 30-acre park.
Commenting on the visit Mark Lancaster said;
"It was great to demonstrate to Nick the 'can do' attitude we have here in Milton Keynes by delivering new affordable housing. As the home of 'I before E' or 'Infrastructure before Expansion' I stressed the importance of building key infrastructure such as Brooklands Primary School first something we must continue to do as the Milton Keynes expands."
Planning Minister Nick Boles added:
'It was great to join Mark Lancaster and see a beautiful new community being created by Places for People at Brooklands in Milton Keynes. Lots of other towns could learn from Milton Keynes' positive approach to meeting their housing need.'
