Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Cities, Greg Clark MP, was given a full tour of Brooklands in Milton Keynes to see just what is being achieved in the city despite the difficult economic climate.
He was brought to see the multi award-winning scheme by city North MP, Mark Lancaster, as part of Milton Keynes bid for a government initiative called City Deals The aim is to agree a deal with Government that will help Milton Keynes sustain its significant local economic development and housing growth.
The MP chose Brooklands to show the minister because it demonstrates how modern projects of this kind are successful because the infrastructure – parks, schools, roads and superfast internet etc. – are completed first to provide an attractive setting for new homes and to be appealing to families.
Mark said "It was great to have the Minister for Cities join us in Milton Keynes and to show him round the Brooklands site. He was particularly impressed with Milton Keynes' mantra of infrastructure before expansion and I was pleased to be able to show him an area where it had been put into practice so well."
Simon Elcock from Places for People who are building Brooklands says, "It's always very encouraging when senior political figures like the minister are brought to our development as an example of good practice. We would like to think this shows that Brooklands is at the forefront of modern development and placemaking."
