MK Apprenticeships are working

Positive news to start the New Year!  Statistics show that 1800 young people in Milton Keynes have taken advantage of an apprenticeship scheme over the last twelve months.

The breakdown of the most popular schemes make interesting reading, with Business, Administration and Law at the top of the table attracting 640 people, closely followed by Retail and Commercial Enterprise which appealed to 380 apprentices. There's also been positive news for the Engineering and Manufacturing sector, which has seen 310 apprenticeship schemes secured, a 10% increase on last year.

Having met with a number of manufacturers in recent months, I'm particularly pleased by the rise in the engineering statistics, as the prospects for skilled manpower in this sector had experienced a recent decline.

This clearly demonstrates that once government made the resources available, our young people grasped the opportunity to improve their prospects in the workplace.
