As part of the Government's Rough Sleeping Fund, Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes will receive £623,585 to help tackle homelessness across the area.
The Fund will be used to help new rough sleepers, or people at imminent risk of sleeping rough, get the immediate support they need to recover and move on from a rough sleeping crisis. This part of the Government's drive to invest £500 million to prevent, relieve and reduce homelessness across the country whilst at the same time support the largest house-building programme by any Government since the 1970s.
Having lobbied ministers for some time on the homelessness issue in MK, both Iain Stewart MP and I welcome this new funding that will make a difference to the lives of local vulnerable people. We can and must do more to support organisations who work tirelessly to assist those at risk of becoming homeless and this announcement is another step in the right direction.
