Where else could you learn to make a pizza, bone a fish and carve a ham in a morning?
I was delighted to discover that I was the very first MP to ask to work at Sainsbury's! Working my way through each counter at the Witan Gate store, I was fascinated to learn how much preparation and attention to detail is given before the produce reaches their customers.
I also learnt very quickly about the intensive training that Sainsbury's pride themselves upon and what the team must achieve long before they have the opportunity of working behind the fresh food counters. Their standards are achieved by attending one of Sainsbury's seven UK food colleges, accredited by City & Guilds.
As I arrived, the Sainsbury's colleagues were dancing, cycling and rowing to raise funds for Sport Relief and the sense of teamwork continued as I worked alongside them. I am certainly going to view my weekly shopping task from a different perspective and appreciate all that goes into my shopping trolley from now on!
