After a gap year commission in Hong Kong with the Queens Gurkha Engineers, Mark has been a serving member of the Territorial Army for over 27 years. Currently a Lt Colonel in the Royal Engineers, he was recently awarded his second long service medal by the Prime Minister. During his career Mark has commanded a Bomb Disposal Squadron and served in Bosnia, Kosovo and most recently Afghanistan.

Mark was instrumental in getting the funding cut proposed by the last Government for the TA reverses in 2009 and was a Member of the Armed Forces Bill 2011.
